Dr. Friederike Römer

Project Director and Principal Investigator

Friederike Römer is the principal investigator of the ImmigSR project. She is also the head of Project B04 "Causes of Inclusion and Exclusion: Immigrant Welfare Rights in Global Comparison" at the Collaborative Research Centre 1342 "Global Dynamics of Social Policy" and co-leads the department “Consensus and Conflict” at the German Centre for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM). Her primary interests include comparative welfare state research, inequality, and the welfare rights of immigrants. She received her PhD in sociology at Humboldt University Berlin in 2017 and worked as a doctoral researcher at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB). In 2019/2020 she was JFK Memorial Fellow at the Center for European Studies, Harvard. Dr. Jakob Henninger

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Jakob Henninger is a postdoctoral research fellow with the Collaborative Research Centre 1342 "Global Dynamics of Social Policy" and the Institute for Intercultural and International Studies at the University of Bremen. His research explores the politics of immigration policy and welfare in authoritarian regimes. He holds a doctorate from the University of Bremen, an MSc in Public Policy and Human Development from Maastricht University and the United Nations University - MERIT and a BA from the University of Geneva. Google Scholar profile.

Mara Junge

Doctoral Researcher

Mara Junge is a PhD student and a research fellow at the University of Bremen. She is employed at the Collaborative Research Centre “Global Dynamics of Social Policy” in the project “Causes of Inclusion and Exclusion: Immigrant Welfare Rights in Global Comparison”. Mara Junge focuses on the role of civil society organisations in the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
In her professional career and her studies of political science at the Free University of Berlin, as well as the double master "European Master in Labour Studies and Social Policy" at the University of Bremen and the University of Milan, her focus was mainly on the social and labor situation of migrants in transnational contexts, as well as political theory and economics.

Dr. Eloisa Harris

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Eloisa Harris is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department for Socio-Cultural Diversity of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity. She is an external collaborator with the project and was a team member between 2018-2021 involved in the collection of the ImmigSR data from 1980-2018. Her research focuses on dynamics of political conflict underlying reforms to immigration, welfare and immigrant-welfare rights in Western Europe. She defended her PhD in Political Science at the University of Bremen (BIGSSS), and holds a MA in Comparative and International Studies from the ETH Zürich/University of Zürich and a BA in PPE from the University of Warwick.
