Welfare state research relies on aggregate indicators, such as decommodification or generosity indices, to facilitate comparison over time and space and across diverse fields of social policy. The projects of the CRC1342 have collected detailed institutional indicators, outcome measures and societal yardsticks during the first two phases, and started conceptualizing and measuring the inclusiveness and scope of benefits in their respective social policy fields. In the third phase, we are working to construct a unified set of measures to map the global varieties of social policy. The workshop presents a first draft of policy-field and aggregate indices for discussion and feedback.
