Governance in the co-creation of a web-based Research Data Management System in the Social Sciences

The Information Management Project (INF) wrote a report on the experiences with Research Data Management (RDM) in the CRC 1342, which was published in "Bausteine Forschungsdatenmanagement". In order to expand systematic RDM, the article addresses, among other things, the question of how the individual interests of researchers can be harmonised with collective goals in large collaborative projects.

New website for project "Causes of Inclusion and Exclusion: Immigrant Welfare Rights in Global Comparison"

The website "The Immigrant Social Rights Project (ImmigSR)" provides the latest version of the ImmigSR dataset which includes a number of indicators of immigrant access to state provided welfare benefits in 39 countries in five world regions for the years 1980-2018. Resources also include a technical report with codebook and country and benefit coverage details, as well as updates on expansions.

GATT/WTO and the Social Clause: Between Protectionism and Social Welfare

The controversy between free trade and labor standards was the central field of tension in Lucia Coppolaro’s Jour Fixe lecture on Wednesday, January 31. In her presentation she addressed the role of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). De-facto coverage and generosity of labor law in South Africa

Andrea Schäfer, researcher in the A03 project "Worlds of Labour: Coverage and Generosity of Employment Law", was on a research stay in Pretoria, Rosslyn, Johannesburg and Silverton from 27.02.2023 to 25.03.2023. On site she cooperated among others with the South African trade union "National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa" (NUMSA) and the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria.

Immigrant social rights in Malaysia

In August and September 2023, Jakob Henninger completed a visiting researcher stay at the Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang. As part of the CRC project B04 "Causes of Inclusion and Exclusion. Welfare State Rights of Immigrants in Global Comparison", he worked on a case study on immigrant social rights in Malaysia.

Effects of measurement errors in popular DMSP night-time lights in empirical political economy

John Gibson, Professor of Economics at the University of Waikato, New Zealand, visited the CRC 1342 on Thursday, October 26, 2023, for a Jour Fixe in the winter term 2023/24. In his talk he spoke about the uses and abuses of night-time light satellite data in the social sciences to measure economic activity and assess local inequality.
